Being Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans or Queer (LGBTQ+)  means that sometimes people feel they have a right to judge you or treat you differently. This can be stressful and can cause anxiety, sadness or problems with drinking too much alcohol or taking drugs.

It’s important that you take the time to think about your mental health and if you’re finding that your feelings are getting in the way of you functioning – you might need to talk to someone about it.

Punjabi culture doesn’t talk about mental health as much as it should. This is strange as depression and anxiety are very common and it’s likely that you know people who have experienced mental ill health.

Don’t let this stop you getting help if you are struggling as it’s better to seek help early if you can.

There are things that you can do to protect your mental health even if you’re not unwell. Take a look at your routine and think about ways that you can take regular time to switch off and relax. Research has shown that even gentle exercise is beneficial for our mental health, so if you can go for a walk or do some stretching.
