Lockdown and Living with Family
Open Minds April 2020 - Lockdown and Living with Family
Like lots of other groups, we have had to move our face to face Punjabi LGBTQ+ support group to an online only space because of the coronavirus pandemic. This is a summary of our first April meeting.
At our April 2020 meeting we talked about how the lockdown is affecting our relationships with ourselves and the people we were living with.
For some of us the lockdown has forced our families to more openly acknowledge our long-term same sex partners.
For others lockdown has been more challenging as it has forced us into situations where we have had to deny aspects of our personalities or sexuality to avoid causing tension or hostility in the family home.
We spent some time thinking about the importance of remembering what our authentic self looks like and nurturing this, even if we have to do this privately. One way of doing this is to write a list of things that are important to you and to try and do something from this list every day.
We’ll keep thinking about ways that we can look after ourselves and others during the lockdown. If you have any ideas - please get in touch.
