Art Collective January 2021 - Our First Meeting!

The Open Minds Project is hosting a monthly space for LGBTQ+ Creatives of Colour in response to the lack of similar spaces out there in the world at the moment.

Our first meeting was a lot of fun! People spent some time talking about their creative practice and shared images of projects they’ve worked on in the past.

We talked about the challenges of making work that takes your identity into account in spaces that don’t always understand or want to understand them. We also talked about how our heritage allows us to draw on different sources of inspiration that we can bring back into our work.

Architecture was a big theme of the meeting and we ended the discussion with a chat about gender neutral toilets and how the idea throws up lots of issues for lots of different groups of people.

It’s going to take time for the Art Collective to find it’s feet but the first meeting showed that spaces like this are needed and can work!
