Ritika Kanapareddy - Poem - Perfect You

Perfect You

When we look into the mirror,

is it not the same that we see

Sure the features may be different

But still a human that we be

A word as precious as love,

Why would you try to define

The rules and expectations and judgment

Who are you to try and confine

Life is already hard enough

Without you telling me how to feel,

Stop trying to control the way my heart beats

Because I know that this feeling is real

You may put on a face

Yet still feel hatred in your soul

Although the battle seems never-ending and long

We won’t stop as equality is the goal

So to my fellow warriors,

We have our work cut out to do

Don’t feel scared to be who you are

Because there’s nothing more perfect than you
